THE CHOICE IS QLIK WHEN USERS HAVE THEIR SAY!

– BARC BI SURVEY 2017

Those of you who follow me know that I often write about Gartner and their thoughts on BI. To be fair, they are not the only ones that cover the BI market. Another great source of information is the BARC BI survey — the world’s largest and most comprehensive study of BI end users with user feedback from over 3 000 respondents on 42 BI product selections.

In the BARC BI Survey, you get a good picture of what the users consider to be important in a BI product. For 2017, the highest ranked are Data Discovery, the area where Qlik started, and Self-Service BI, which is Qlik Sense’s backyard. For 2018, Data Quality has moved up to the top, a topic I hear about a lot, as many customers are starting to realize that their DQ is not as good as they would like it to be. Especially when starting to integrate unstructured data into the analysis. Here, it is important to consider the level of Master Data/Data Quality Management that you can reach. Gartner talks a lot about trust instead of one truth. You need to allow a certain level of chaos to get started with the analysis and not drown in Data Quality projects.

Big Data is not that important

Another interesting observation is that Big Data and Hadoop are not that important, along with the hot topic of Mobile BI, which only gets an average score. Makes you wonder if product companies develop a lot of unwanted features or if the users don’t know what they need yet. I guess the answer is a little bit of both.

Qlik top ranked in Customer Satisfaction

Rating the various BI products, they are grouped into different peer groups. Qlik is rated in several of them; Self-service reporting focused products, Data discovery focused products and the Large international BI vendors peer group. In all peer groups, Qlik gets top or leader ranked in many categories, it is great to see Qlik Top ranked in Business value and Customer satisfaction in the Large international BI vendors peer group.
